This Guide is by its nature incomplete. We have labored to bring to you useful information for the identification of species known to be found in the Lok' Groton chain of islands; yet there are still terrains we have not explored, and we invite all amateur birders to report any species not matching those described in the Guide.
Even those birds described herein are not fully studied. Information on nesting habits, food sources, courtship rituals, migration, and hunting behaviors is sketchy. As you are birding, we ask that you take copious notes, and present interesting findings to the Puddlebean Ornithological Society for confirmation and inclusion in future Guides.
Who can be a birder? Anyone who loves birds. The Society itself is composed of experts, and membership is conferred by invitation only; yet the Society exists largely to provide information and assistance to the broader community of amateur birders. Call upon the Society as needed to answer questions, assist with planning expeditions, and identify new species.
Occasionally, an amateur birder gains such great stature through his contributions to the study of birds that he may receive an invitation to join the Society. If such an invitation is offered to you, you must know that the Society requires considerable time commitments from its members, and that membership in other organizations (such as clans) is incompatible with this requirement. Hence, only the most serious birders should choose to accept such an offer.
It should be noted that the Society is _not_ a clan. The Court of the Emperor has outlawed clans from being formed by those exiled to the Lok' Groton Islands. The Society complies with Empire law, for to be branded outlaw would be to diminish opportunities to influence Empire policies with respect to wildlife and natural areas conservation. Hence the Society is merely a group of dedicated ornithologists, seeking to lawfully expand knowledge and appreciation of birds through community service and scientific inquiry.
That said, let us proceed to provide such information as is currently available for identifying bird species in the Lok' Groton Islands.
Once you are familier with birds, you may want to learn about deeper detail about specific bird species.
